The Rating Graphs area is located immediately below the Form View area. It consists of two sets of graphs separated by rating components and can be toggled on and off by clicking the ShowGraphs button on the Toolbar.
There are three types of graphs that can be displayed:
The graphs in each area can be selected separately for whichever rating method you are evaluating. You can have, say Trakform in the left hand graph and Formline in the right hand graph. Or you can have Formline in both graphs with distance analysis in the one graph and Ratings in the other, or Ratings in one and Class Value in the other. The choice is yours.
Form Ratings Graphs
The rating values for each run are plotted as column charts, with the top of each vertical column at its respective ratings value in kgs. The bottom of each column is always at the 0kg base line or horizontal axis.
The vertical axis is divided into increments of 10kg from 0kg to 70kg. Dashed horizontal gridlines are drawn across the graph area at each 10kg increment to make it easy to identify the rating values and to compare ratings at different runs. The columns are arranged with the oldest run on the left and subsequent runs to the right progressively in chronological order. The last column represents the value of the Qualifying Run for today's race.
|
The colour of each column is the same as the Track Going colour for that day in the Form View above the graphs.
|
|
The colour of the Qualifying Run column is always the same colour as the Qualifying Run's highlighted colour in the Form View above the graphs |
|
The columns are separated by a space except for:
- Break - Two spaces
- Let Up - Three spaces
- Spell - Four spaces
|
If you place your mouse pointer on a column in the Rating Graph, the corresponding run in the Form View will be highlighted, usually in green.
If races are highlighted in red, this indicates that this particular race is not on your computer.

Adjusting the Base Rating
|
Some users may want to make adjustments to the Base rating to fine-tune a rating based on an opinion that differs from the generic rating.
Base Rating values can be adjusted by positioning the mouse cursor over the B (Base Rating) value and clicking with the right or left mouse buttons.
Clicking with the left mouse button will increase the value by 0.1 and right clicking will decrease the value by 0.1, so to change the rating in the picture at left from 54.5 to 54.8 will take three left clicks, for example.
To alter the value by a full 1.0kg, hold down the Ctrl key and click. To change the 54.5 kg rating at left to 59.5, you would hold down the Ctrl key and left-click five times. Ctrl right-click would decrease the value by 1.0kg each click. |
The values can be adjusted at a rapid rate by holding down the mouse buttons momentarily.
Values can be adjust in the Form Ratings graphs, ie without the CVAL or DIST buttons selected.
Distance Analysis Graphs
|
The Distance Analysis graph can be toggled on/off in either pane with the DIST buttons at the bottom of the Rating Components panel and has the same format for vertical axis and dashed gridlines as for the Form Ratings Graphs.
The horizontal axis, however, has a series of graduations along its length. Each graduation represents a distance of 100m and is used to help you locate various race distances in the form runs.
There is a darker grey vertical column extending from the horizontal axis, 0kg, to the top, 70kg, dashed horizontal gridline.
|
|
The centre of the grey column is placed at today's race distance and its width represents 200m on both sides of today's race distance, a total width of 400m.
There is a column for every distance run in the past form. For example, say a horse has run at only four different distances in its last 16 runs, 8x1200, 4x1300, 2x1400 and 2x1600). There will be only 4 vertical columns, one for each distance group.
The height of each column will represent the highest kg rating of the runs in that distance group. The ratings of the other runs will be shown by horizontal black lines across the column at their respective values.
Wins are shown in white at the bottom of the graph columns. The height of each win is equivalent to 5kg on the vertical axis. For example, for one win at a particular distance, the bottom of the column from the 0kg base line (horizontal axis) to half way to the first (10kg) dashed horizontal gridline will be white and the rest of the column will be coloured according to the going. For two wins at that distance the height of the white section of the column will extend from the 0kg base line to the 10kg horizontal gridline.
In the rather simple example at right, it can be seen that today’s run is over a distance of 1000m (the graph’s distance graduations start at 700m at the left) and that this horse has run at only two distances, 1000m and 1200m. This graph also shows that this horse has achieved its highest Trakform rating of 60.0kg at this distance and has won three times at this distance.
Where a horse has won at a distance not shown in the past ratings, only the white win section of the column at that distance will be shown. It will not have a coloured going section above it.
Where a horse has had only one run at a specific distance, the column will be coloured with the same Going highlight colour for that run.
Where there is more than one race within a distance group at different Goings the bottom section up to the first black line will be coloured with the respective Going highlight, and so with the last section the highlight colour of the highest rated run. |

Class Value Analysis Graphs
The Class Value (Cval) of a race is an indicator of the strength, or class, of the race field, expressed in kilograms. It is an open ended range, but generally between –30 (weakest class) and +12 (strongest class).
The Class Value Analysis graph can be toggled on/off in either pane with the CVAL buttons at the bottom of the Rating Components panel and has the same format for vertical axis and dashed gridlines as for the Form Ratings Graphs and Distance Analysis Graphs. |
|
The horizontal axis, similar to the Distance graphs, has a series of graduations along its length, each of which represents 1.0kg.
There is a darker grey vertical column extending from the horizontal axis, 0kg, to the top, 70kg, dashed horizontal gridline.
The centre of the grey column is placed at today's Class Value and its width represents 2.0kg on both sides of today's race Class Value, a total width of 4.0kg.
|
|
In the example at right, The Class Value of this race (Belmont Park Race 5, 3 July 04) was -4.5 kg. It can be seen at a glance that this horse has run once only slightly below today’s Class Value, at –5.0 kg, which it won. All its other runs have been at a higher Class Value than today, one of which it won, at –3.0 kg. |
